Your cannabis buds are already dry and cured, but you can’t yet put them directly into a rolling paper or blunt wrap—if you do they won’t burn evenly, and you’ll lose a lot of extra weed. So, obviously, you need to grind weed/your buds. The most straightforward way is of course to use a grinder, but sometimes we may not have one handy, or some of us don’t like to use a grinder at all. How do you grind weed without a grinder? Actually, there are many ways.
When You Are at Home How to Grind Weed Without a Grinder
A kitchen knife and cutting board
This is arguably the most primitive method, and I don’t even need to explain to you how to use it. Chop your cannabis flower like a vegetable, the only caveat is to make sure you have a sharp knife.
A coffee grinder
Using a coffee grinder is probably the closest thing to a weed grinder. Make sure your coffee grinder is thoroughly cleaned before use. Loosely place your weed in the grinder and set the grind time to get the fineness you want. Please also clean it carefully after each use, unless you want a weed coffee next time you use it.
Mortar & pestle
This is the “grinder” of ancient times, it was invented to grind herbs and spices—our weed can also be considered a type of “herbal medicine.” Put your buds in a clean mortar and use a pestle to grind the buds. Note to dry your buds a bit before you start as damp weed may become sticky if you use this method.
Pizza cutter
If you don’t have such sharp blades at home, pizza cutters are good enough for grinding cannabis. Do it on a cutting board rather than directly on the table since you don’t want to make a mess. First, divide the buds into sections, then mix them together, and use the pizza cutter to continue to cut smaller ones.

Sometimes you go to some party and you’re the only one holding the weed. You certainly don’t carry a grinder with you, and you can use some of the party items to grind when you or someone else at the party wants to use marijuana.
Shot Glass & Scissors
At a party, almost everyone has a wine glass or a shot glass, and there are usually a few pairs of scissors for use. Clean the wine glass and scissors, throw the weed into the cup, and cut it up with the scissors in the cup until it gets to a consistency you like.
A blender
If you’re at a party that offers a wide variety of drinks, especially if it’s serving mixed drinks, there’s usually a blender somewhere. While it might sound crazy to grind weeds with one of those large blenders, it works!
As with everything, clean it carefully before and after use. Don’t go overboard with the blending, just do it enough to get the right consistency.

Your hands
It doesn’t matter if you don’t really have anything around you, you can also use your hands to pull apart your weed. Divide your buds in half with your hands, and then use your fingernails to slowly divide them into smaller pieces until you’re satisfied.

Although so many grinding methods have been introduced, always make sure you clean any device that isn’t dedicated to grinding cannabis because you’ll probably want them to work later. Try cleaning them with a mineral solution, soapy water, or a solution that is designed for cannabis. Weed grinders are pretty small and easy to take with you so try not to forget one—but we’ve all been there and it can be fun to get creative with grinding.
