The time has come: you have your tent set up and your lights are ready to be hung. But now the question of how do I hang my light properly and what are these weird hangers that came with the light?
I will go over the details so that by the end of this article you won’t have to wonder any longer. While there is no perfect answer for how to hang a light, I will provide some tips on how most of us in the growing world do it.
For this article, I will use the VIVOSUN VS1000 as an example.
Step 1: Gather your supplies – What are they and how do I use them?
(In this picture we see the light, the metal hangers, and the rope hangers. This is a pretty standard set for most lights)
Step 2: Hook the metal hangers to the light and the rope hangers to the hoops on the metal hangers – What are they and how do I use them?
(The metal hangers clip onto the light in each corner and the rope hanger connects to the loop in the middle)
Step 3: Hang the long end of the rope hanger on the cross bars, looping it over the bars and connecting it to the rope – What are they and how do I use them?
(One end of the rope hanger will loop over the top bar and clip onto the rope to lock it into place)
After the hanger is locked into place is when we can adjust the light to the right height. During the seedling stage, we want to put the light around 24-36 inches above the plants. In veg, we drop it down to around 18 -24 inches above the plants. In flower, we can drop down the light to about 12 inches above the plant canopy.
You can easily move the light up and down by pushing the button on the rope hanger. With the button pushed in, the rope moves freely so the light can move down easily. To move the light up, push the button and pull the long rope to make the light go upwards.
Once you get the basics down, you will find it easy to move the lights whenever you need to. This gives you the freedom to get creative in your light placement and find the best spot for your plants. If you have plants that are taller on one side of the tent and lower on the other, you can raise one side of the light or lower one end to keep the light coverage even across your plants.
