What are Germinate Seeds?
Germinating seeds is the first step we all must take unless we start from a clone. Once you have the basics down you won’t ever have to worry about how to do it again. We will explain a few methods so you can choose what is best for you.
The paper towel method – how to germinate seeds?
This method is one of the easiest. Start with a paper towel and a Ziplock baggie. To begin, moisten a paper towel. Squeeze out the majority of the water. Unfold the paper towel and put your seeds in half of the paper towel. Fold the other half over. You can then fold the edges over just to protect the seeds from falling out. Place the paper towel inside the Ziplock and leave some air inside the baggie. Put this in a dark warm spot and leave it alone for 24 hours. You can hold the bag up to a light source to see if the roots have begun to grow.
Planting directly in the soil – how to germinate seeds?
Place the seed in a small hole about ¼ inch deep in already moist soil. When the seed is planted you can place a cup over the top of where the seed is planted, to keep moisture higher. Keep the soil warm and moist and the seed should sprout within a few days.
Water bath – how to germinate seeds?
With this method, we place the seeds in a small cup, like a shot glass. Fill the cup with water and let the seeds soak for 12-24 hours. Sometimes the seed will crack and start showing the root right away. After the seeds have soaked you can then plant directly into the soil or switch to the paper towel method to let the seed germinate before planting.
All the methods are easy and everyone has their own specific method they prefer, but knowing how to do them all means that you can choose whatever method or combination of methods that are best for you.
